Energy Storage Systems
Fire safety concepts in the 2018 International Fire and Residential Codes Energy storage systems are showing up in ever increasing numbers, which creates challenges for fire protection engineers and code officials who must address a new generation of fire safety concerns. These systems include modern stationary battery systems, electrical capacitors systems and other technologies. This session provides an overview of these systems and discusses requirements that will appear in the 2018 IFC, IBC and IRC. A good session for keeping you ahead of the curve on upcoming code requirements. Presenter: Howard Hopper , FPE – Program Manager Codes and Advisory Services for UL Howard Hopper is a fire protection engineer in UL’s Codes & Advisory Services Department, working out of the Fremont office. He coordinates UL’s fire and building code development activity, serves on many ICC and NFPA committees, and serves on the Board of the International Association of Fire Chiefs Fire & Life Safety Section. He Chairs the Fire Code Action Committee’s Energy Storage System working group, and has been a driving force behind the development of code requirements that more effectively mitigate the hazards associated with modern battery storage systems.
